Yet another entry into the John Wick saga is in development, with the new series, John Wick: Under The High Table, joining the fray.
“Yeah, I’m thinkin’ I’m back.”
Early Monday morning, Nellie Andreeva of Deadline broke the news that a sequel series and spin-off to John Wick Chapter 4 is in development at Lionsgate. The series will reportedly directly follow the events of Chapter 4, with the High Table in disarray following Wick’s wrath, as well as his presumed (but not confirmed) death.
The series will reportedly follow new characters as they make a name for themselves within that exclusive world while some franchise veterans continue their dedication to the old world’s rules. As for who these characters are, could be anybody’s guess but alumni Ian McShane and Laurence Fishburne are fan favourites that are thriving within that world.
In the films, The High Table is a council of the elite crimelords that preside over the underworld that the John Wick films take place in. Cast members who were affiliated with The High Table include Bill Skarsgard, Clancy Brown, Asia Kate Dillon, Scott Adkins, and Mark Dacascos. Such high-profile cast members would indicate that they may follow suit with this series.
Franchise face Keanu Reeves is heavily involved in the series as an executive producer alongside Chad Stahelski, with the latter attached to direct the pilot episode. It is unknown if Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as Wick in the series with his character’s fate left ambiguous, but Deadline has reported that the series will not interfere with the plans for John Wick Chapter 5.
Other character threads that may be touched on in John Wick: Under The High Table include the rivalry between Donnie Yen’s Caine and Rina Sawayama’s Akira, with the latter teased to avenge her father in John Wick Chapter 4’s post-credits scene.
The 87Eleven Entertainment produced series is currently being shopped to potential buyers and will reportedly “combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age,” according to the series description.
As for the immediate future of the John Wick franchise, Ballerina is slated for a 2025 release date and will introduce Ana de Armas to the franchise. Also in development is the fifth John Wick film.
