Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi & Isabela Merced Return as Justice Gang for ‘The People vs Gorilla Grodd’

Just when it was thought that casting for The People vs Gorilla Grodd was over, several key DC Universe characters have been reported to feature in the series. Read about The People vs Gorilla Grodd Justice Gang below.
In a new post from Apocalyptic Horseman, it was revealed that Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi and Isabela Merced will reprise their roles as Maxwell Lord, Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl respectively.
The insider states that their involvement in the upcoming mockumentary series is expected to be limited to just a one episode guest star in nature.
All three first appeared in James Gunn’s Superman, with Sean Gunn and Merced reprising their roles for a Peacemaker Season 2 cameo. Gathegi is yet to return to the DC Universe, but is expected to next appear in Man of Tomorrow.
In the DCU, Maxwell Lord is responsible for the formation and benefaction of The Justice Gang, a group of superpowered individuals with the goal to benefit humanity. Lord himself isn’t on the team, but Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl are, alongside Guy Gardner (aka Green Lantern) and, on a part-time basis, Superman (David Corenswet).
It is unknown if Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as Guy Gardner in The People vs Gorilla Grodd, though the character just appeared in Lanterns on HBO, and is already touted to star in Mister Miracle (as the first and only confirmed casting no less).
The People vs Gorilla Grodd, which is now in production in Atlanta, follows Jimmy Olsen revisiting the haunting case of Gorilla Grodd, the supersmart Gorilla who murdered his father. The series is framed as an in-universe documentary, and the synopsis for that can be found below:
A superintelligent ape is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part “true” crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.
The involvement of the Justice Gang is currently unknown, but it’s possible that Lord testifies in the murder trial of Grodd, whilst the Justice Gang could have apprehended him following the murder.
The series is created by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, and stars Skyler Gisondo, Jimmy Tatro, Eduardo Franco, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, Wendell Pierce, Mary Holland, Arian Moayed, Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Sean Gunn, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz. It is expected to be released sometime in 2027.
