Allan Heinberg Developing ‘Mr Terrific’ Series At DC Studios
Young Avengers creator Allan Heinberg is developing a Mr Terrific series at DC Studios
Comic legend and The Sandman creator Allan Heinberg is returning to the world of DC, developing a Mr Terrific solo series for DC Studios.
Fans originally heard news of a Mr Terrific project back in 2025 following the release of Superman, where the Wall Street Journal confirmed that DC Studios was considering developing a Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) series and a Mr Terrific (Edi Gathegi) series. The former is now close to production, gearing up for a fall shoot, whilst the latter has been silent. That is, until now.
The Hollywood Reporter says that DC Studios has hired Allan Heinberg to create and writer a pilot for the upcoming Mr Terrific series, continuing a long running relationship that has continued across both comics and film/television. He is best known as the writer of Netflix’s two season adaptation of The Sandman that was suspiciously cancelled following allegations made against comic creator Neil Gaiman.

In the world of comics, Heinberg is known as a co-creator of the Young Avengers, making him an influential figure across both major comic brands.
Created by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake in 1997, Mr Terrific (aka Michael Holt) first appeared in Spectre Vol. 3 #54. Mr Terrific made his DC Universe debut in James Gunn’s Superman where he played a pivotal role in helping save the fabric of the universe after Lex’s greed endangered it. He has not made any appearances since, bar a retconned cameo in the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2, though is expected to feature in Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to Superman. We are yet to discover any details for his role, though with the impending threat of Brainiac (Lars Eidinger), Mr Terrific’s intellect will be a useful weapon in the anticipated battle.
It is unknown if the series will focus explicitly on Mr Terrific or serve as a The Terrifics project. In the comics, The Terrifics are a team formed by Holt that he leads, though in the DCU currently he leads Maxwell Lord’s (Sean Gunn) Justice Gang.
Insider Apocalyptic Horseman, clarifies that this is actually the Strange Adventures TV series that was first reported by rDCULeaks several years ago when DC Studios first launched. The insider claims that Heinberg was attached to write that series, though is uncertain if the series evolved into just a Mr Terrific solo project instead of an adaptation of Tom King’s Strange Adventures.
