‘Grown Ups 3’ Production Date Marks Full Circle Moment For Franchise
Grown Ups 3 is finally on its way, and its production date harks back to the very first time we met Lenny, Kurt, Eric, Rob, and Marcus.
Nearly 13 years after the release of the second Grown Ups film, audiences have been clamoring to what has become one of the most beloved franchises under Happy Madison Production’s belt.
First announced at the 2026 Netflix Upfront, Netflix will be producing Grown Ups 3 for their streaming service, a shift from Sony Pictures who released the last two films. Kyle Newacheck was announced as director, reuniting with Sandler following their outings on Murder Mystery and Happy Gilmore 2, the latter of which broke records for Netflix viewership.
Now, What’s On Netflix, an outlet for Netflix updates, shares an update for the film, where several unsourced production listings list the production dates for the film as beginning on July 6th, 2026, and ending by October 14, 2026. The film will reportedly be filming across New Jersey and Boston, whilst other locations include Italy and France.
‘Grown Ups 3’ Will Begin Filming Around The Fourth of July Weekend
This production start date coincidentally lines up with the story of the first film, which saw Lenny Fader (Sandler) unite with his childhood friends (Chris Rock’s Kurt McKenzie, Kevin James’ Eric Lamonsoff, David Spade’s Marcus Higgins, and Rob Schneider’s Rob Hilliard) to spend a the Fourth of July weekend at a lake to commemorate, honor, and spread the ashes of their high school basketball coach, Coach Buzzer.
Now, 16 years later, Grown Ups 3 is spending the Fourth of July readying itself for production, with David Spade and Rob Schneider sharing a picture together of themselves at a costume test for their characters Marcus Higgins and Rob Hilliard. You can see that post below:
What Is ‘Grown Ups 3’ About?
Production Weekly had previously shared a synopsis for the film, which hints that Lenny and the gang may be heading to Europe to spread the ashes of a close friend. Read the full synopsis below:
The Grown Ups franchise revolves around a set of childhood friends who are brought back together as adults over the course of a summer vacation. The threequel picks up with Lenny (Sandler), Marcus (Spade), Rob (Schneider), Kurt (Rock), Eric (James), and their significant others after the death of a close friend, as they travel to Europe to spread his ashes and prove that they can still be fun – even in their sixties.”
If true, the close friend who dies could very well be Dickie (Colin Quinn), Wiley (Steve Buscemi), Malcolm (Tim Meadows) Rob’s brother Nick (Nick Swardson), or even Malcolm’s brother Officer Fluzoo (Shaq).
The status of the children introduced over the course of the first two films is also left up in the air with Lenny’s kids Greg and Keithie Fader being major parts of the second film, though Keithie actor Cameron Boyce sadly passed away in 2019. Other characters that were introduced are Rob’s daughters, Marcus’s son Braden (Alexander Ludwig).
Other members of the ensemble who are confirmed to join the film include Salma Hayek as Lenny’s wife Roxanne, Maya Rudolph as Kurt’s wife Deanne, and Maria Bello as Eric’s wife Sally. All three characters played major roles in the first two films, and their inclusion will reassure fans as to the legitimacy of a threequel so late after the first two.
