‘Subnautica 2’ Community Event, Art Contest & Gameplay Showcase Details

In the leadup to the launch of Subnautica 2 in early access, Unknown Worlds has announced a number of events that players can participate in, including an aptitude test, art contest, and a gameplay showcase with a Twitch drop up for grabs. We’ll discuss each event in today’s article.

Subnautica 2 is the third entry in the long-running underwater survival horror franchise. This title follows a group of Alterra employees who find themselves on an all new planet that houses a new array of underwater mysteries and dangers. Read the official synopsis below:

“Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands.”

Subnautica 2: Leviathan Awakens Fan Art Contest

Starting things off is an art contest where players can imagine their take on an upcoming leviathan known as the Deepwing Brooder Leviathan. The full template is provided on the official blog post and the first place winner will have their design made into an in-game poster.

The event runs from May 2, 2026 (Sat) at 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET to May 12, 2026 (Tue) at 11:59 PM PT / May 13, 2026 (Wed) at 2:59 AM ET, and winners will be announced on May 27, 2026 at 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET. First Place (1 winner)

• Fan art will be made into an in-game poster item and distributed to all players through a future update
• Artwork will be featured on our official social media channels

Note: The Sea Dragon Poster is not exclusive to this event and may be distributed through other events in the future.

Subnautica 2: Alterra Career Event

Next up is the Alterra Career Event, players can head to the Alterra Career website where they can participate in an aptitude test to learn about what their role in Alterra could be after answering a few questions.

The event runs from May 2, 2026 at 12:00 PM PT / 3:00 PM ET to May 29, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT / May 30, 2026 at 2:59 AM ET.If 100,000 players participate in the event, all owners of Subnautica 2 will receive a “Lost River Poster” craftable blueprint, which they can display in their base.

Subnautica 2: Pre-Launch Showcase & Twitch Drop

Finally, on May 9th at 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET, Unknown Worlds will host a Subnautica 2 Pre-Launch livestream. The approximately 120 minute (or 2 hour) long showcase will include the debut of an all new gameplay trailer, conversations and demos with the development team, giveaways, and more.

The live stream will air on the official Subnautica YouTube, Twitch, and Bilibili channels, with Twitch viewers having the opportunity to earn a Subnautica 2 Twitch Drop. Twitch Viewers who watch the showcase for at least 20 minutes can head to the Drops & Rewards page and claim an in-game “Seamoth Statue” blueprint for their base. We also have instructions on how to claim your reward below:

1. Launch Subnautica 2 and navigate to the Settings screen.
2. Select “Link Twitch Account,” then scan the QR code or open the browser to log in to Twitch and click Authorize.
3. Return to the game and claim your reward under “Check Twitch Drops.”

Players have until June 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM PT / July 1st, 2026, at 2:59 AM ET to claim the Seamoth Statue Reward in-game.

There will also be a number of plushie giveaways. Details on how to participate will be revealed during the showcase and on the official Subnautica social channels.

Subnautica 2 is developed by Unknown Worlds. The game launches in early access for $29.99 USD on PC (Steam and Epic Games) and Xbox Series X|S on May 14th, 2026 at 11:00 AM EDT. The Pre-Launch Showcase airs on May 9th at 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET on YouTube, Twitch and Bilibili.
