David Robert Mitchell’s ‘The End of Oak Street’ Plot Details & Synopsis Revealed (Exclusive)
We can exclusively reveal plot details regarding David Robert Mitchell’s newest film, which was previously titled Flowervale Street, and also when to expect the first trailer.
The newest mystery/thriller directed by the mind behind It Follows and Under The Silver Lake, is releasing in theaters on August 14th this year. We haven’t known much about The End of Oak Street other than the fact that filming had wrapped almost two years ago, very brief plot details and who it stars, with filming taking place back on March 22nd, 2024, in London, the 1980s set dinosaur survival story starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor was set to release in theaters on May 16th, 2025 only for it to be delayed twice to its current release date as of August 14th, 2026.
Warner Bros. Studios boss Mike De Luca, has also previously described the film as a “Twilight Zone”-esque film: “I’m really excited about this Twilight Zone kind of JJ Abrams-produced movie that David Robert Mitchell, who’s usually an indie director, did. An additional thing worth mentioning too is that The End of Oak Street will be receiving an IMAX window release.

Plot Details and Synopsis
For the plot details, we’ve heard the following here at Feature First:
The film takes place in a quiet 1980s suburban neighborhood. It follows a family dealing with a couple of rough patches, primarily following the mother (Anne Hathaway) with her fantasies of possibly leaving her husband (Ewan McGregor) and children (Christian Convery & Maisy Stella) and starting fresh. Suddenly, their entire neighborhood of Flowervale / Oak St. is suddenly transported to prehistoric times because of an inexplicable supernatural force. Causing them to fend for their lives against the many dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures that constantly stalk and hunt for them. All the while they encounter their own dilemmas and discover how family is important and try to find a way to survive in this new world.
A source compared the world of The End of Oak Street to The Shimmer from Alex Garland’s Annihilation but regardless, here is the synopsis for the film:
After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.
We do also know for a fact that the first trailer should be expected very soon this week, possibly tomorrow even? The End of Oak Street stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Christian Convery, and Maisy Stella. The mystery/thriller, directed by David Robert Mitchell, releases in theaters on August 14th.
