Jason Momoa To Lead ‘Helldivers’ Adaptation At Sony Pictures
Casting on Justin Lin’s adaptation of Helldivers is heating up with veteran Jason Momoa landing the lead role for the upcoming film.
When Helldivers 2 was released back in 2024, it quickly became one of the most popular games of the current era, so of course, given today’s corporate culture of movie adaptations of video games, a film adaptation of Helldivers and its sequel was quickly put into development.
Helldivers follows an elite group of operatives called Helldivers who must battle aliens in defence of the fictional planet Super Earth. It’s a simple premise, but one ripe for action and disaster filmmaking, genres that are primed for success at the box office. Now, Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions have found their star to push that agenda.

Jason Momoa will lead the film, making it his fourth video game adaptation following Street Fighter, A Minecraft Movie and its upcoming sequel, assuming he reprises his role in the latter. Momoa usually sticks to action projects, recently appearing in The Wrecking Crew, and with planned future appearances in Supergirl, Dune: Part Three, Animal Friends, Street Fighter, and A Minecraft Movie 2.
Dated for a November 10, 2027, theatrical release, Helldivers will be the seventh video game adaptation to be released that year, with instalments in the Sonic, The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft, Death Stranding, Elden Ring, and Horizon Zero Dawn franchises also dated for 2027.
