Live Action ‘Gaston’ Film In Development At Disney, Spinning Off ‘Beauty and the Beast’
Walt Disney Pictures are developing a live action Gaston film, disconnected from 2017’s Beauty and the Beast.
Disney doesn’t seem dissuaded by the failure of Snow White earlier this year, instead focusing on the huge success of Lilo & Stitch which grossed over a billion dollars to become the second highest grossing hollywood film of the year (time will tell if Avatar: Fire and Ash surpasses it).
At the time, Disney did pause development on all their live-action remakes such as Michael Gracey’s Tangled remake, but now they’re greenlighting even more, now creating live-action spin-offs for some of their more villainous characters i.e. Craig Gillespie’s Cruella or Robert Stromberg’s Maleficent, some of their more critically successful films. Those live-action remakes spun off 101 Dalmatians and Sleeping Beauty respectively.
Now, Disney is spinning off yet another one of their animated classics in live-action, this time Beauty and the Beast. The film will follow Gaston, the arrogant and ruthless hunter that kills the Beast after finding out his crush Belle is in love with him. No plot details have been disclosed.

In the original Disney animated Beauty and the Beast, Gaston was voiced by Richard White and in the 2017 live-action remake, he was played by Luke Evans. Luke Evans will not be returning for Gaston, likely making the film disconnected entirely to the 2017 remake.
Kate Herron (best known for Loki) and Briony Redman (who, with Herron, worked on Doctor Who and the upcoming The Sims film) developed a previous draft of Gaston, but the film is now being penned by Dave Callaham, who helped created the Expendables franchise and wrote both Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse and the upcoming sequel Beyond The Spider-Verse.

Whilst there is no director yet attached, Andor‘s Michelle Rejwan will produce.
