Ridley Scott’s ‘The Dog Stars’ Begins Filming Soon
Ridley Scott’s film adaptation of the 2012 post-apocalyptic fiction novel, starring Jacob Elordi, will reportedly begin filming in Italy in two weeks.
Announced back on November 8th, Ridley Scott’s next directorial feature will be a film adaptation of Peter Heller’s post-apocalyptic fiction novel, despite being attached to direct a Bee Gees biopic, which, according to the director, he plans to be shooting this September, and mentioning that he’s begun working on Gladiator III. The Dog Stars follows a man living a lonesome existence with his dog and a dour gunman he’s befriended in an airplane hangar after the world’s population has been wiped out by a pandemic.
The film adaptation of the novel had Paul Mescal in advanced talks to star in the film until he was later replaced by Jacob Elordi, as Mescal had scheduling issues. It’s safe to assume that this is because he was preoccupied with work on Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies which are set to begin production soon. It was also recently announced that Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce would be joining Jacob Elordi in the film.
‘The Dog Stars’ To Begin Filming In 2 Weeks In Italy
According to Steve Asbell on Twitter/X, the film will be entering production soon.
With The Dog Stars beginning production soon, it’s safe to assume that the film is aiming for a 2026 release, which would mark next year as a big year for auteur-driven directors, considering that we’re getting new releases by big directors such as Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Denis Villeneuve and more.
As for what’s next for Ridley, it’ll be interesting to see how this feature will go considering that he wants to shoot another film later this year and (possibly?) shoot Gladiator III sometime soon. It’ll also be interesting to see how Jacob Elordi’s career unfolds even further after this, considering that he’s been working with big-time auteurs lately, such as Paul Schrader in Oh, Canada and later this year in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.
