‘Saw 11’ Has Reportedly Been Cancelled
After months of drama and rumours surrounding the upcoming Saw sequel, it is now being reported that ‘Saw XI’ has been scrapped entirely.
The reported cancellation of Saw 11 is a shocking blow to a franchise that had just found its footing again with Saw X. After years of diminishing returns and mixed reception from fans, Saw X was a breath of fresh air, bringing back what made the series great—Tobin Bell’s John Kramer at the center of it all. His performance, combined with a more character-driven story and brutal but inventive traps, made Saw X the most well-received entry in years. It proved that audiences still had an appetite for Saw, and more importantly, that the franchise works best when Bell is involved.
After such unexpected success for Lionsgate, you would think that they’d fast-track a sequel immediately and make it a high priority, but it seems that the opposite has occurred.
As reported by Bloody Disgusting, a source close to the production of the movie has claimed that Saw 11 is fully cancelled.
“It’s totally dead,” cites the source. “It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.” (via. Bloody Disgusting)
The source also echoes reports that have been circulating for over a year now, which claim that Saw XI has been facing multiple problems behind the scenes as the creatives behind the franchise have been rifting with executives on where to take the story.

Given the franchise’s history of convoluted timelines and shifting perspectives, it’s understandable that crafting another Saw movie while keeping it fresh is a challenge. However, considering the renewed goodwill Saw X generated, shelving the next instalment feels like a missed opportunity. Lionsgate had the perfect chance to build on Saw X’s momentum, but instead, they’re letting it fizzle out when they should be fast-tracking a sequel. With horror franchises thriving more than ever, this could have been Saw’s big resurgence, and now, it feels like they’re dropping the ball at the worst possible time.
According to Bloody Disgusting, “[Lionsgate] didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement.” and now it is in turmoil.
For a franchise that has spanned so many years, it’s very unlikely that this is the end. Whilst this seems to be the end of the development of this specific movie, there are many options for another sequel to be developed in the future or even spinoffs of the franchise.
Another possible avenue explored in the report is that the franchise could be sold to another company and be rebooted. This would likely not go down well, as Tobin Bell is the core of that franchise, as proven by the success and reactions to recent Saw movies. However, he is getting older and they may begin exploring options that don’t require him going forward.
After all the franchise has been through, it’s a shame to see success so short-lived and hopefully something more will come soon but for now, it appears that this is all.
