Grab the cookies and espresso: On Sept. 19, Netflix announced A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, a holiday variety music special with musical guests that will stream exclusively on Friday, December 6 at 6 p.m. PST / 9 p.m. EST.
This is unsurprising as Sabrina famously released a Christmas album last year entitled Fruitcake which featured 6 songs and ran for 16 minutes, it was critically acclaimed and beloved by fans, encouraging the creation of this special. However, the album isn’t long enough to cover a whole movie so it’s very likely that Sabrina will be singing some Christmas classics and doing other festive activities to pad the runtime. Of course, after her success over the summer and now into the future, it wouldn’t be a special capitalising on her newfound fame if she didn’t sing the songs that catapulted her to stardom. Whilst it’s a Christmas special, she will surely be singing “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”. Not only because they’re her biggest hits, but also to draw attention to them as she will be competing for multiple categories at the Grammys next year.
Carpenter is nominated for 6 Grammys next year including Best Song for “Please Please Please” and Best New Artist. Whilst she has been famous for a long time, she was thrust into the public eye due to these hits and now she is being broadcast on a global stage on Netflix.
“The holidays have always been so special to me,” Carpenter told Netflix.
“I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.” The star also spoke to TIME. “It’s an hour of literal nonsense,” Sabrina told TIME of the special in October. “If people are expecting boring, me singing by a tree, it’s not that. It’s so fun, so chaotic. There are so many guests that I’m excited about.”
