DC Studios’ latest Elseworlds project, Dynamic Duo, has been given a release window in 2028.
Following an announcement earlier this month, one of DC Studios’ first animated features is already getting updates in a new announcement fresh from the Warner Bros. Pictures Animation panel at the Lightbox Expo
At the Lightbox Expo, held on October 25th, 2024 , Warner Bros. Pictures Animation gave a panel giving updates on some of their animated features. Arthur Mintz, director of Dynamic Duo came on stage to announce that the film is aiming for a Spring 2028 release.
It was also revealed to have big action set pieces in the same vein as The Bourne Ultimatum.
Dynamic Duo was first announced on October 1st, 2024 and pitched as an origin story for two of the Robins: Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The film will be animated by New Orleans-based animation studio Swaybox known for a special type of animation style known as “Momo Animation”. This style combines CGI animation, practical elements of stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance to create more expressive and human visuals.
The film directed by Arthur Mintz with a script by Matthew Aldrich is seemingly an Elseworld project as it’s not connected to Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe and there are no signs pointing to it being connected to Andy Muschietti’s Batman: The Brave And The Bold which is set in the DCU.
Producers include DC Studio’s very own James Gunn, Peter Safran and The Batman director Matt Reeves. Reeves had this to say regarding the announcement:
“I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream”.
James Gunn also took to social media to share his thoughts on the announcement, you can read the full quote below:
“Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, Dynamic Duo, the story of Robin… or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. This is something special”.
Dynamic Duo is directed by Arthur Mintz with a script by Matthew Aldrich. The animated film hits theatres in Spring 2028.
