‘Wonder Man’ Episode 1 Ending Explained

Wonder Man follows the journey of Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) starring in the remake of his favorite film Wonder Man. During his rise to stardom he befriends Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) who’s widely known as portraying the Mandarin during the events of Iron Man 3 and runs into trouble with the Department of Damage Control as Agent Cleary (Arian Moayed) keeps close watch on Simon and his secret.

Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film “Wonder Man.” These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.

Today marks the premiere of Marvel Television’s Wonder Man with all eight episodes now streaming on Disney+. We’ll recap the first episode of the series and discuss the ending.

What Happens At The End Of Wonder Man Episode 1?

The first episode titled “Matinee,” opens with footage of the original Wonder Man film from 1980, where we meet Young Simon and his father. Cut to present day, and Simon is preparing for his role in American Horror Story. Once filming commences, he begins suggesting changes to the scene, which delays shooting and eventually leads to him being fired. It only goes downhill from there as Simon’s day gets worse, having trouble finding a parking space and his girlfriend moving out. While watching a movie Simon runs into Trevor Slattery, who’s teasing an audition for a big movie. Once the movie ends the two begin talking and Simon learns that they’re remaking Wonder Man. He immediately goes to his agent Janelle (X Mayo) and asks her to secure an audition. When Janelle doesn’t budge Simon takes matters into his own hands, getting the audition for himself, on the day of the audition he’s nervous especially after Trevor makes a great impression. Trevor gives Simon some advice, and that helps him to nail the audition. All that’s left is to wait.

Moving on to the ending of the episode, Simon and Trevor go out for drinks to celebrate Trevor feels optimistic about the auditions, which eases Simon’s nerves. Once Simon is gone Trevor gets a phone call, on the other line is Agent Cleary of the DODC. He asks Trevor how today went and it’s revealed that Trevor has been assigned to spy on Simon, who’s suspected of having superpowers, implying that the two running into each other at the theatre may not have been by random chance. 

Wonder Man is created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. The series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams / Wonder Man, Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, Zlatko Burić as Von Kovak and more. All eight episodes are now streaming on Disney+.
