As part of a usual Threads spree, James Gunn seemed to imply DC Studios’ involvement in the latest DC animated series, Beast Boy: Lone Wolf.
After releasing first looks and a promo last month, and releasing the full series beginning October 28, 2024, Beast Boy: Lone Wolf is finally available to international audiences courtesy of the Cartoon Network UK YouTube channel.
While our review is still on the way, audiences spotted that James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-CEOs of DC Studios, had produced the short-form animated series. The fact was an interesting one, considering the duo had never produced a DC animated series, or any DC series for that matter, that isn’t also produced by DC Studios on behalf of Gunn/Safran.
This led us here at Feature First to seek questions from the man himself, James Gunn. We questioned the creative and CEO with the following prompt:

Gunn replied with a simple like (as seen below) implying the involvement of DC Studios as a company in the series. It would make sense, as Gunn and Safran have both expressed the concept of DC Elseworlds in the series, with The Batman Part II, The Penguin, and Teen Titans Go! also belonging to the studio classification even without involvement from James Gunn and co.
Is ‘Beast Boy: Lone Wolf’ Canon To ‘Teen Titans Go!’
When initially announced at Annecy Film Festival, Beast Boy: Lone Wolf was announced as separate from the other Beast Boy-centric series, including Teen Titans Go! specifically. Since then, things may have changed as some details have come to light with the release of the series. First, the Cartoon Network UK video that released the series features a description that hints at possible connectivity:
“Sit back and enjoy the complete series of Beast Boy: Lone Wolf. The silliest Teen Titans Go! member is older… but is he wiser?”
Teen Titans Go! is mentioned here specifically by name, in relation to a term used in the context of time, “older”, implying the series could be set after the events of the series. Next, Greg Cipes returns to voice Beast Boy, a role he’s been attached to for well over two decades. He originally played the character in 2003’s Teen Titans, a show which is connected to Teen Titans Go! canonically.
Finally, a T-shirt in the show bears similar character designs to both the 2003 series and Teen Titans Go!
Beast Boy: Lone Wolf is directed by Rhys Byfield and stars Greg Cipes as Beast Boy. It is now streaming on YouTube for free. Watch it below:
