Following a teaser yesterday, rapper Tyler, the Creator has confirmed a release date for his upcoming Chromakopia album alongside an album cover.
Only yesterday did Odd Future alum Tyler Okonma, better known by his stage name Tyler, the Creator, release a teaser hinting at a new project. The teaser featured a colourless landscape, with men marching towards an impending doom in the form of a shipping container which subsequently explodes before panning to a green title card bearing the word Chromakopia.
Tyler’s eighth overall album will officially be released on October 28th, 2024. This is over three years after the release of his last standard album, Call Me If You Get Lost, which released in June 2021.
The album art released by Okonma shows a predominantly chromatic colour scheme, with the rapper situated centre frame with a hand raised. Brandished on top is the album title, subtitled with Tyler, the Creator’s credits on the album: as a writer, producer and arranger, as well as the obvious performer credit.
Possible Inspirations For ‘Chromakopia’
Theories are running rampant on social media, with many audience members creating conspiracies regarding the plot and inspirations of the album. Many theorize Tyler to be playing Chroma the Great in the “St. Chroma” teaser.
Chroma the Great is a character in Norton Juster’s book, The Phantom Tollbooth. He’s a character deep-rooted in colour, something the “St. Chroma” teaser plays around with a lot. The character also famously appears in an image with his palm raised, not dissimilar to the cover of Chromakopia.
Chromakopia is performed, written, produced, and arranged by Tyler, the Creator. The album is scheduled for an October 28, 2024 release. Merch is currently available via Chromakopia.com.
