Earlier today, Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door debuted at the Venice Film Festival. Reactions to the film are generally mixed with many praising Tilda Swinton’s acting performance as a woman confronting death, and the film’s use of color, even if some find it to be leaving much to be desired. The film is Almodóvar’s first English language film and is poised to shake up the awards scene with the awards circuit now in full swing.

The synopsis for the film reads:

“Ingrid and Martha were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter. Eventually, they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.”
