‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Episode 5 Review: The Good Stuff

Another week, another episode of the Pitt. Here is our review for The Pitt Season 2 Episode 5 which is out now.

The Pitt Season 2 Episode 5 picks back up at 11:00 AM as we go through another hour of the show; here is our review for it.

We’re officially a third of the way through The Pitt Season 2, which is interesting to think about because it’s been a month since this show has begun and we’re not even close to the halfway point. It feels like a rarity in the streaming era to have the luxury to spend 15 hours of time with a story.

If I’m being completely honest, I feel that Season 2 thus far has been a bit weaker than the first section of Season 1 of the show. There felt like a certain spark was missing, but episode 5 of Season 2 has whatever that magic sauce is down.

It really felt like an early Season 1 episode in a really good way. It gave enough time to every storyline which were almost all equally solid, while the personal and professional lives of our doctors had some neat little fun. Even the gags felt similar.

Robby and Langdon are at the heart of this episode. Their strained relationship receives some hurdles through different patients who are struggling. It’s clear that Langdon making up with Robby as quickly as possible is in the best interest of everyone at the hospital, which multiple others this episode make clear. However, there’s just too much history for Robby to simply forgive Langdon, which makes the dynamic really fascinating.

This has been the beating heart of this season, and it will likely be that way throughout. We’re building to some climax—likely emotional in some way. Robby can only avoid the inevitable for so long and it seems like the inevitable is coming sooner than we thought.

Ogilvie also went through the ringer this episode, which was a fun ride to go along with. His somewhat cocky demeanor was humbled to some degree last episode, and this episode makes him all the more compelling for it. There’s a pretty good gag featuring him as well.

There’s also a new patient who’s a prisoner that got stomped in a fight. Along with him is a prison guard accompanying the prisoner, which makes the job of the doctors harder. The prisoners cuffs have to stay on almost the entire time, which makes it all the more tricky. I’m very curious to see where this storyline leads.

The insurance storyline from last week is back, and I thought it was greatly improved. Last week I felt that storyline felt ham-fisted in a way that just didn’t work for me. Great concept but bad execution, I felt. This week it felt more naturally written and performed, which helped land the plane despite early turbulence.

All in all, I quite liked this episode. Every storyline and interaction felt airtight, and it’s probably my favorite or second favorite of the season. I’m very curious to see when the full-on chaos (the storm) begins, but for now I’m enjoying what we’re getting (the calm).
