‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Couples Therapy
Another week, another episode of the Pitt. Here is our review for The Pitt Season 2 Episode 2 which is out now.
The Pitt Season 2 Episode 3 picks back up at 9:00 AM as we go through another rather eventful hour of the show; here is our review for it.
Season 1 of The Pitt featured a lot of subversions with the patients and their conditions. What they set up is not necessarily what you should expect. Sometimes you can feel a subversion coming but what I really enjoy about this show and in particular this episode is how they use their
This episode features three couples somewhat at the forefront of the episode. One of them are the parent of Kylie, the girl who has multiple bruises all over her body that came in with her stepmom. This part of the season has been very central for Santos and her arc. In this episode we finally get to meet the father.

In Season 1 we see how she reacts when subjects like child abuse and sexual assault come up and are in the realm of possibility for a patient, so it’s understandable that a case like this would cause her to be on the lookout for the same thing. A part of that subversion that works is that it’s very much in spirit with her character. We see everything that transpires through her lens through constant reaction shots during the major moments of this section.
A different couple is one that comes in after a very bad accident. The husband comes in to the Pitt in a pretty bad condition, while his wife, Nicole, seems fine. Another man who was also involved in the accident is a biker. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, and what’s interesting is that in Robby’s response, he lies. Robby claims to wear a helmet when he rides a motorcycle, which the opening of this season clearly contradicts, which will likely be a factor later on in the season.
Michael, who is Dr. McKay’s patient and has had memory issues from Episode 1, has been revealed to have a mass. His ex-wife, whom he has left as his emergency contact, shows up. Michael’s arc with

The three couples this episode are wildly different, which works to the episode’s benefit. We see a range of conversations ranging from bittersweet to volatile regarding these relationships and the conditions of these patients. The bittersweet moment between Michael and his ex-wife and the conversation that surrounds those with Dr. McKay has been my favorite part of this season thus far. Those calm, serious moments are what a show like this handles really well.
Despite the other two couples being major parts of this episode, I’m not sure they are as effective, which I’m sure some of it is by design. Regardless, what worked in this episode were the character moments. Another great moment was Joy reacting to the biker’s condition. You could see the horror on her face as it went on and the contrast of the reactions from the doctors and nurses in the room, who have seen something like this more times than they can count.
