‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Trailer: The Return Of The Big Screen

Here is the breakdown for the first trailer of The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Nearly seven years after their last foray into theaters, Star Wars will at long last return to the big screen in The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will follow the titular characters after the events of 2023’s The Mandalorian Season 3. The film was originally set to be a fourth season of the acclaimed series, but after the dual SAG-AFTRA and Writers strikes in 2023, it was decided that they would rework the scripts for the big screen. Fans got a taste of the film at Star Wars Celebration Japan and Destination D23 earlier this year, but now everyone gets to see what Jon Favreau has been cooking up in this brand new teaser trailer.

What Happens in the First Trailer for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?

The trailer opens with a brand new Razor Crest flying along the shore of a beachy planet. We see Grogu and The Mandalorian, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), scouting out an Imperial fortress riddled with stormtroopers. Grogu is traveling through some sewers with an Anzellan, who may or may not be Babu Frik (of The Rise of Skywalker fame), as we cut to a shot inside Adelphi base where we see New Republic Colonel Ward played by Sigourney Weaver. Grogu attempts to steal her snacks using the Force but is promptly put in his place.

After the Lucasfilm logo, we see Din walking through the streets of a neon-lit city before we cut to him attacking someone in a bar. A quick action montage goes by and we see Grogu going for a swim and a ride with the Anzellans. Next we see the Ghost Crew’s Zeb Orrelios fighting some stormtroopers in a hallway with his bo-rifle from Star Wars: Rebels.

As Ludwig Göransson’s now iconic score reaches its crescendo, we see a gladiator ring featuring a very buff Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba, who will be played in this film by The Bear star Jeremy Allen White. Din fights off some giant droids blocking what appears to be a Hutt Cartel vault before getting in the ring himself to take on a Mantellian Savrip. The trailer ends on a shot of an AT-AT getting blown up by Mando and Grogu, part of a longer one-shot fight seen in the Star Wars Celebration exclusive trailer.

Alongside the trailer, a first poster was also released.

The Mandalorian and Grogu stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin / The Mandalorian, Sigourney Weaver as Ward, and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt. The film is directed by Jon Favreau and written by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Ludwig Göransson is set to compose the score. It is set to release on May 22nd in 2026.
