If you’re looking for a way to spice up this year’s Valentine’s Day then it seems Apple TV+’s next original film might be the way to go as the first trailer for The Gorge has just been released, showing an international romance.

Following success in the form of The Black Phone, horror filmmaker Scott Derrickson took a break before filming a sequel to the aforementioned, shaking things up a little bit with The Gorge. While it does seem to have some horror elements, the movie looks to be more of an action romance, as depicted in its just-released first trailer.

What Is ‘The Gorge’ About?

The Gorge follows an American sniper (Miles Teller) tasked with defending earth, keeping a gate that supposedly goes to hell, which takes the form of a gorge. He’s positioned on the Western side of the gaping hole, with the Eastern side being protected by a Russian operative (Anya Taylor-Joy). You can find the full synopsis below:

Two highly-trained operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge, protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.

The trailer sees a look at a blossoming romance, which takes place over a year, as both operatives are tasked with overseeing the gatekeeping of the gorge. The film seems to take long distance relationships to a new level, with our leads communicating with written signs.

The latest trailer was released as part of CCXP celebrations, promoting the upcoming film, with both Teller and Taylor-Joy in attendance at the convention. See some stills from that event, below:
