‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Debuts To Worst Ever Ratings On Disney+
The Fantastic Four: First Steps isn’t off to a fantastic start on Disney+ with the film debuting with the worst numbers of any Marvel movie since the service’s launch.
Following one of the companies worst years in theatres ever, Marvel Studios isn’t in a good place right now. With Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the horizon that will likely change, but it seems the darkness is the darkest before the dawn as The Fantastic Four: First Steps is putting up (or rather down) numbers that prove the franchise is at a low point. Read about the The Fantastic Four: First Steps Disney+ debut.
According to statistics service Nielsen, The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuted with a very mild 556M minutes viewed (the equivalent to 4.9M views). This places the July release at the very bottom of Marvel Studios debuts on the service following movies such as The Marvels (5.3M), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (6.1M), and Thunderbolts* (5.5M).
The Fantastic Four: First Steps performed the best out of the three Marvel Studios releases in theatres this year, grossing $521.9M versus Thunderbolts*‘ $382.4M and Captain America: Brave New World‘s $415.1M. This is interesting as it is the lowest viewed Marvel Studios film ever, in terms of Disney+ debuts, with box office disappointments such as Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* performing better than it.

It is unlikely a low such as this will be reached again until after Avengers: Secret Wars (which many theorize will reset the universe) as projects such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will likely perform well due to the nature of those films.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps was directed by Matt Shakman and followed the titular characters (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach) in an alternative timeline during the 60s as they are forced to battle Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his herald Shalla-Bal (Julia Garner) before they can destroy Earth. The film’s post credit scene introduced the MCU’s Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), directly tying into the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday where the Fantastic Four are next expected to appear.
