‘Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2’ Collection Coming To Nintendo Switch

The Mario 40th Anniversary announcements are in full swing during today’s Nintendo Direct, Shigeru Miyamoto just announced that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are coming to the Nintendo Switch in the form of a 1 + 2 collection. We previously saw Super Mario Galaxy bundled in the limited-time Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection which launched for the franchise’s 35th anniversary. This time however, fans won’t have to worry about missing out on the chance to experience these two games, as they will be available for the foreseeable future in a physical bundle for $69.99 USD or available digitally at $39.99 per title. The games will launch on October 2nd, 2025.
The Super Mario Galaxy games follow Mario as he rescues Princess Peach from Bowser while also recovering the stolen Power Stars from Bowser. Read the official synopses for Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 below:
In the Super Mario Galaxy game, Mario must rescue Princess Peach and recover the stolen Power Stars from Bowser.
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario is once again called upon to rescue his friend, Princess Peach. This time, he teams up with Yoshi and travels across the universe in Starship Mario, a flying vessel shaped like Mario’s head!
What’s New in the Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Collection?

In addition to both games being upscaled to HD Resolution (and 4K on Nintendo Switch 2) there is additional content being added to the game.
An Assist Mode has been added to the game, this mode will increase your life and bounce Mario back from falls amongst other things.
Rosalina’s storybook will see new pages added, giving players more lore regarding the game’s characters. A physical version of the storybook will also be available for purchase on November 25th, 2025, for $24.99 USD. The new pages will not be available in this physical version.
Soundtrack mode will allow you to listen to all the tracks available in-game.
Amiibo support allows players to scan amiibo for in-game items such as 1UP Mushrooms. Only select amiibo are compatible.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Amiibo Revealed

That’s not all as two new amiibo will be released six months after the game’s launch on April 2nd, 2026 at $39.99 USD each. They are the “Mario and Luma” and “Rosalina and Lumas” figures, which will also be supported with the games.

Super Mario Galaxy is developed by Nintendo. The games will be available for purchase on October 2nd, 2025 as a collection for $69.99 (Physical/Digital) or individually for $39.99 each (Digital).
