We can exclusively report the final runtime of Paddington in Peru starring Ben Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas, Olivia Colman and more.
What Is ‘Paddington in Peru’ About?
Paddington in Peru is the threequel to the Paddington films, one of the most highly acclaimed and best recent charming family films that focus on themes of kindness, joy and the importance of staying true to oneself. The first film follows Paddington whose home was destroyed by an earthquake leading him to leave in search of a new home and ends up settling in London with Henry (Hugh Bonneville) and Mary Brown (Sally Hawkins) after he is finally accepted, following a tumultuous beginning in the family.
The second film follows Paddington being framed for theft and getting arrested instead of a burglar (played by Hugh Grant) and having to adapt to life in prison only for him to be proven innocent later, with a provoking message that doing the right thing will always triumph in the end.
Paddington in Peru will follow Paddington and the Browns visiting Paddington’s aunt Lucy in Peru, with circumstances leading the group to search for Lucy in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Director Dougal Wilson mentioned at a special event in London, that the first film was about the audience knowing where Paddington came from and how he found his home in London with the second being about him almost losing that home, so it would be very appropriate for him in the third film (in Wilson’s view) to return to Peru and take his London friends with him.
How Long Is ‘Paddington in Peru’?
We can exclusively confirm that the final runtime of Paddington in Peru is 1 hour and 46 minutes, being longer than the first film by 11 minutes and the second film by 2 minutes. Although it’s not too much longer and the runtime was already expected to be less than 2 hours, it makes sense for it to be longer due to the upgraded lore and plot of this upcoming film, with Paddington trying to discover more of his origins alongside the Browns who adopted him.
Sally Hawkins will not be returning as Mary Brown in the threequel, with Emily Mortimer taking over the role. The director of the first two films, Paul King also did not return to direct this film, as he felt “it was time to let go and give somebody else a shot”, leading him to direct Charlie and the Chocolate Factory origin story, Wonka instead, which starred Timothée Chalamet. King will soon be directing a Prince Charming movie for Disney.
The iconic English bear is making his return to theaters very soon as Paddington in Peru will release in theaters in the United Kingdom on November 8th and in the United States on January 17th, 2025.
