Next ‘Minecraft’ Game Drop Introduces Rideable Happy Ghast
During the first Minecraft Live of 2025, the next Minecraft game drop (following the “Spring To Life” game drop set for release on March 25th) was teased, introducing a new happy variant of the Ghast.
In of September 2024, the decision was made to create “Game Drops,” smaller content updates that occur more frequently throughout the year. This new method replaces the traditional summer updates which featured a huge amount of content, but were limited to an annual release.
What To Expect In The New Minecraft Game Drop
The untitled game drop will feature a new take on the Ghast. The Ghast was originally released during Minecraft’s version 1.2.0 update as a hostile mob found in The Nether. The Ghast has the ability to fly and shoot fireballs at the player.
In this new game drop, players will be able to locate the “Dried Ghast” block near fossils in the Nether’s Soul Sand Valley biome. Once taken back to the Overworld, players can place water on this new block to create a Ghastling – whose favorite food happens to be snowballs.
The Ghastling can eventually grow into the Happy Ghast, a new mount for Minecraft that can hold up to four players after equipping it with a harness. Players can craft the new harness item using 3 pieces of leather, 2 glass blocks and 1 block of wool. Additionally, the Happy Ghast can be stood on to help with reaching high places on your build.
The locator bar will also be added in this game drop, this bar helps to find others while playing multiplayer. The locator bar is found right above the player’s hotbar in the same location as the XP bar. When a player is not actively earning XP, the locator bar will be displayed.
The next Minecraft game drop launches this summer on all platforms.
