New ‘Spider-Man 4’ Rumours Imply A Hellish Adventure

Several new rumours from the past week have revealed a possible plot for the next instalment in the Marvel Studios Spider-Man franchise.

New ‘Spider-Man 4’ Rumours Imply A Hellish Adventure

A collection of new rumours from industry insider Jeff Sneider details some factors that might occur in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man 4, including a possible villain in Mephisto.

In his latest newsletter at TheInSneider, it was revealed that Mephisto, the Marvel counterpart of Satan, will reportedly play a role in Spider-Man 4, Jeff Sneider reports. He states that Sacha Baron Cohen, who is first expected to play the character in Ironheart, will reprise his role in the film.

Next, Sneider reports that Charlie Cox, the actor best known for his portrayal of Matt Murdoch in Daredevil, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, will reprise his role in Spider-Man 4. It would be the third piece of MCU Spider-Man-related media that he would star in, following 2021’s No Way Home and 2025’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and his fifth project with Marvel Studios.

In addition to this, Cox’s Daredevil: Born Again co-star Jon Bernthal may join the cast too, reprising his role as The Punisher, although Sneider’s sources are conflicted on the information. Bernthal is best known as Shane in The Walking Dead, Michael in The Bear, and as Frank Castle/ The Punisher in the pseudo-MCU canon Netflix Defender-Verse.

Zendaya, however, will reportedly have less screen time than previously reported, with her role reportedly being whittled down to a minor character. This is a result of her increasingly loaded schedule, where her time is being spent between Dune: Messiah and Euphoria season 3. She plays MJ, Peter Parker’s love interest in the previous Home trilogy (which was directed by Jon Watts). The final film of that trilogy left her with no memory of Spider-Man and her attending MIT in Boston.

Finally, the Symbiote will reportedly play a role in the story of the film, perhaps incorporating a black suit subplot into the overarching story of the film, if not a Venom-centric arc, with Tom Hardy previously being reported as being in the film. In film, the symbiote appeared in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, fueling years of Bully Maguire memes. The blob of goo would then go on to appear in Sony’s Venom trilogy, which followed Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and concluded earlier this year

Spider-Man 4 is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is aiming for a June 2025 production start, before finishing in October 2025. The film currently stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Tom Hardy, and according to this new report, Sacha Baron Cohen, Charlie Cox and possibly Jon Bernthal.
