New ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Trailer: Bringing Punk Rock To SDCC

The official trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 explores a new dimension where Chris can finally be the man he wants to be.

Peacemaker Season 2 is the third entry of the new DC Universe (DCU) as well as the final project of 2025. The series was renewed for a second season in February 2022, a day before the season one finale. James Gunn directs three episodes in the new season with Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett and Althea Jones directing the remaining episodes. A small portion of the series was filmed at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia in April 2024 with principal photography occurring from June to November of that same year.

Peacemaker is in a unique position; the first season occurred while the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was still ongoing, and now the second season will be set in the DCU. Consistencies are sure to be expected due to this large shift, the Justice League cameo in the season one finale, for example. As a result, Peacemaker: The Official Podcast has started earlier than usual with a season one rewatch currently ongoing from July 24th to August 18th with new episodes every Monday and Thursday. In this podcast, James Gunn will explain what’s canon and what’s not while accompanied by members of the cast. Peacemaker Season 2 debuted its first trailer on May 9th, 2025 almost a month before Superman hit theatres, the teaser follows Chris and the rest of the 11th Street Kids after saving the world from the butterflies in season one. The trailer ends with Chris entering a pocket dimension and encountering what appears to be another Peacemaker. This idea of “a new world” is expanded on with a small teaser that was showcased during select screenings of Superman which we covered earlier this month.

Over the course of San Diego Comic Con, DC Studios hosted “Peacefest”, “a chaotic 1980s glam rock-inspired activation hosted at Nova SD Club in downtown San Diego. Designed to capture the unhinged energy of Peacemaker” closing out with a dedicated panel. During this panel the official trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 was released expanding on the teaser trailer’s cliffhanger of a second Christopher Smith. You can view the trailer below:

What Happens In The ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Official Trailer?

The trailer sees Chris wanting to be a real hero, whilst also grappling with his past demons and the killing of Rick Flag Jr (Joel Kinnaman), an event that sets off Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo) in pursuing vengeance against Peacemaker. This seemingly leads Peacemaker to flee to the parallel universe through his pocket dimension, where he finds new versions of himself (both literally and figuratively), Harcourt, his father, and brother. Also in the trailer is our first look at Judomaster in Season 2, where his rivalry with John Economos will continue.

The trailer uses the song “Road To Nowhere” by Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary rocker who passed away earlier this week at age 76. This has already led to speculation that the song choice was a recent addition, as an ode to the industry moving artist.

Additionally, an updated logline for the series was released on July 25th, 2025 and reads as follows:

In season 2, Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands.

Peacemaker Season 2 is created by James Gunn and stars John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr and more. The series premieres on Max on August 21st.
