‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Cold War Prequel Series In Development At Apple TV
Apple TV is developing a Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Cold War prequel starring Wyatt Russell as Lee Shaw.
It’s been a few years since the release of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and with Season 2 right around the corner, we finally have another Monsterverse series in development. This time, spinning off Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and following a young Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell).
As first reported by Nexus Point News, and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, the series is set to be created by Joby Harold, and will follow Shaw as he attempts to stop the Soviet Union from unleashing a new Titan on the U.S. Godzilla is also set to return. There is no word on whether or not the older version of Shaw, played by Wyatt’s father Kurt Russell, will return.

The series will be produced by Kei Banno, Brian Rogers and Kenji Okuhira, whilst Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce for Toho Co. Harold, Tory Tunnell, Wyatt Russell, Chris Black, Kyle Bradstreet, Alex Boden, Max Borenstein and Andy Goddard will executive produce.
Lee Shaw will next appear in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2, where Kurt Russell will reprise his role as an older Shaw. It is unknown whether Wyatt Russell will report his role in this season. The season will see the return of Kong and Godzilla.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 stars Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, Elisa Lasowski, Amber Midthunder, and Kurt Russell.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returns to Apple TV on February 27th, 2026.
