The launch of Marvel Rivals Season 3: “The Abyss Awakens” means a new hero and new map. This time around Jean Grey / Phoenix joins the roster as the 40th hero (Blade will join as the 41st hero next month) and given that the story of Season 3 focuses heavily on the Symbiote God, Knull, we have a new map set on Klyntar called “The Celestial Husk”. Jean Grey / Phoenix Role And Abilities Explained
Jean Grey / Phoenix is the 40th hero joining the Marvel Rivals roster. Through the character trailer we learn that Jean is a ground-based, ranged Duelist with abilities that allow her temporary flight. Her ultimate is dive-based offering similar controls to Venom and Captain America with a focus on a large Area of Effect. See a breakdown of her abilities below.

| Team-Up: Mind’s Grace | Jean Grey imbues Wolverine with the awe-inspiring Phoenix Force. With this power, Wolverine’s Feral Leap transforms into Phoenix Warrior. While active, he is enveloped in Phoenix flames that continuously scorch him and nearby enemies, dealing Percentage Damage. In this state, Wolverine’s abilities gain Lifesteal while inflicting damage. | Passive |
Chaos Phoenix And Emoji Bundle
At the launch of Season 3, Jean Grey / Phoenix will debut with the “Chaos Phoenix” outfit in the shop. The skin is legendary rarity meaning that the bundle, which includes an MVP Animation, Emote, Spray and Nameplate will cost 2200 Units (approximately $22 USD). A Phoenix Emoji Bundle which includes the “Fired Up”, “X”, “Cosmic Rage”, “Bring It”, “All Up Here”, and “I Got You” Emojis are also available for 600 Units (approximately $6 USD).
Klyntar: Celestial Husk Map Explained
Celestial Husk is a new Klyntar based map joining the rotation with the new season. It’s a Domination map meaning that players will fight to control a central zone located on the map in a best out-of-three situation. This map features Knull’s very own Necrosword and the corpse of a Celestial. Depending on which side wins players will witness a cutscene where Knull awakens and grabs his Necrosword while the other cutscene depicts the Phoenix hatching from an egg.
Marvel Rivals is developed by NetEase and is available for free on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Jean Grey / Phoenix and the Klyntar: Celestial Husk map both launch on July 11th.
