Mads Mikkelsen Joins Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Lawrence in Martin Scorsese’s ‘What Happens At Night’
Casting has begun for Martin Scorsese’s next film with Mads Mikkelsen officially joining What Happens At Night.
Martin Scorsese is one of the most acclaimed directors of all time, having directed ten Best Picture nominees. Now, the director is gearing up for his next film ahead of a February 2026 production start in the Czech Republic, with casting now underway. As part of this, legendary Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s next movie What Happens At Night.
The news stems from an exclusive report from TheInSneider’s Jeff Sneider who broke the news on Friday.
He joins Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the film, collaborating with each of them, as well as Scorsese for the first time. What Happens At Night sees an American couple (DiCaprio and Lawrence) travel to Europe looking to adopt a child to rekindle their struggling marriage. Whilst staying in Europe, they meet a faith healer, a corrupt businessman and an eccentric singer.
It’s possible Mikkelsen has been cast as the corrupt business man, unless Scorsese and script writer Patrick Marber have opted to alter the story for the big screen adaptation.
Mads Mikkelsen is best known for his roles as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale and as Hannibal Lector in Hannibal. He most recently starred in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Dust Bunny. He will next appear in A.M.I. alongside Diane Kruger.
What Happens At Night is directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Patrick Marber, and shot by Rodrigo Prieto. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Mads Mikkelsen.
