‘Lanterns’: HBO Show Adds Aaron Pierre As John Stewart
For the upcoming ‘Lanterns’ series, DC Studios has found it’s John Stewart in the form of Rebel Ridge breakout star Aaron Pierre.
To round out the casting of Lanterns’ co-leads, the DC Studios production has found it’s John Stewart in the form of Rebel Ridge breakout star Aaron Pierre.
Following a tumultuous month which saw the addition of James Hawes as the director of the first two episodes of Lanterns, and a new rumour suggesting that Kelly MacDonald (No Country For Old Men) has entered talks to play Hal Jordan’s love interest in the series, we finally have our John Stewart.
While the shortlist was reportedly down to Stephan James and Aaron Pierre, the latter has won the ring, with Aaron Pierre being the latest actor to join the DCU. He comes fresh off a word-of-mouth hit with Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge.
In that movie, he plays an ex-militant who must combat small town corruption in the police force. You can read Ansh’s review here, where they describe the film as “absolutely exhilarating action filmmaking at its finest.”
This casting comes after the other lead, Hal Jordan, a legendary veteran of the Green Lantern Corps, was casted with Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler in the role. He will serve in a mentor role for Stewart, who is just starting out as a rookie in the Corps.
Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. It is created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, and is executive produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The series currently has an 8-episode order at HBO and will stream on Max.
