The third instalment in Rian Johnson’s fan favourite Knives Out franchise is now undergoing its casting phase, having cast three new leads with more expected in the coming days.
Moves are being made behind the scenes of the newly titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, having cast three members in an expected ensemble cast. And they’re not just popular actors either, they’re all involved in three of this year’s biggest productions.
First up is Cailee Spaeny, who has been on the receiving end of a lot of buzz for her roles in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, Alex Garland’s Civil War and the upcoming Alien: Romulus. She was nearly nominated for an Oscar last year for her work on the A24 Priscilla Presley biopic but came up short, but Knives Out 3 (if not Civil War) could do the job.
Coming fresh from his Challengers performance where he co-starred with Mike Faist and Zendaya, is Josh O’Connor. Although it is currently unknown whether the actor will be using his native British accent in the film, it surely would allow the actor to express even more of his emotional range.
And for our third official casting in Knives Out 3, Andrew Scott joined the film on May 29, 2024. The actor recently gained awards attention for his involvement in Andrew Haigh’s thriller All Of Us Strangers, as well as his depiction of Tom Ripley in the Netflix series Ripley.
Recently, the Knives Out Twitter/X account has been replying to a few celebrities. One such celebrity is Nicholas Galitzine, who has been gaining traction recently for his roles in Bottoms, Red, White and Royal Blue as well as the recent The Idea Of You film. Although none of these films garnered much awards attention, he does fit the general description the other members fit.
And although this could just be the administrator of the account playing around, there is reason as to why it might not be! The actor posted the one-word tweet “Today” teasing a new announcement. Hmmm. Wonder what that could be?
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is directed by Rian Johnson and currently stars Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny and Andrew Scott. It will be released on Netflix sometime in 2025, six years after the release of the original film.
