Titanic star Kate Winslet is the latest in a long line of acclaimed stars in talks to join the Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings series set within Middle Earth. The news follows Leo Woodall and Anya Taylor-Joy joining talks for Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and now Winslet is in talks to join the same film in a supporting role.

The information comes from Daniel Richtman, who shared the information on his Patreon, in what is becoming a long line of The Hunt for Gollum casting scoops.

Details about her role remain under wraps but it’s possible she will step in for Cate Blanchett to portray Galadriel, the royal Elf named the Lady of Lothlorien and the grandmother of Arwen (originated by Liv Tyler, possibly played by Anya Taylor-Joy in The Hunt for Gollum).

Andy Serkis directs the film, which is rumoured to follow Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Aragorn (originated by Viggo Mortensen, theorized to be played here by Leo Woodall) in their search for Gollum (Serkis) to learn more about The One Ring and Sauron’s past, following the events of Bilbo’s (originated by Ian Holm, possibly played here by Martin Freeman) 111th birthday party. These events happened off-screen and off-page in the source material and its adaptations.

Winslet is best known for her performance as Rose in James Cameron’s Titanic, as well as her roles as Ronal in Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash and as the titular character in Mare of Easttown.

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum stars Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, and Elijah Wood. The film is produced by New Line Cinema for Warner Bros. Discovery and is set to be released in December 2027.
