Kanye West Banned From Entry To The UK — Wireless Festival Cancelled
Kanye West has officially been barred from entry into the UK ahead of Wireless Festival, which itself has been cancelled following the ban.
In a move that will be sure to divide the internet, the UK Government has banned Kanye West from entry into the United Kingdom, causing Wireless Festival to cancel its July festival. Following the huge success of Ye: Live at SoFi this past week, all eyes have been on Wireless, Ye’s first festival headlining in about half a decade. From sponsors rescinding their sponsorship to politicians advocating to stop the festival from happening, Kanye West has officially been refused entry to the United Kingdom.
The BBC broke the news, which prompted the London festival Wireless to cancel the entire festival. In their statement, they said: “The Home Office has withdrawn Ye’s ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom. As a result, Wireless Festival is cancelled, and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders. As with every Wireless Festival, multiple stakeholders were consulted in advance of booking Ye, and no concerns were highlighted at the time.”
Continuing their statement, they reiterated past comments from Ye and representatives of the Jewish community in the UK, the latter of which threatened protests if Ye was still slated to headline.
“Antisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognise the real and personal impact these issues have had. As Ye said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and in spite of this still hopes to be given the opportunity to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the UK.”
Below is a collection of reactions from public figures regarding the ban and cancellation:
Ye will continue to perform at shows across the globe, with shows planned for Arnhem, Madrid, New Delhi, Marseille, and many more. His latest album is now streaming on music streaming platforms.
