Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss & Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta To Return In ‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’
Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to return as Katniss and Peeta in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
Over ten years after last seeing the characters in live-action, Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark are set to return in the sixth Hunger Games film, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
The news was broken by industry insider Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, who revealed that the two original quadrilogy actors will be returning in the film. Whilst this may come as a surprise to some, Katniss and Peeta did actually appear in the latest book of which the film is adapting, but in the epilogue alongside Haymitch Abernathy. For this reason, it is expected that Woody Harrelson also returns.
Since launching their careers into super stardom with The Hunger Games, both Lawrence and Hutcherson have furthered their careers. Lawrence earned an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, earning an additional two nominations since then. She most recently appears alongside Robert Pattinson in Lynne Ramsey’s Die, My Love. Josh Hutcherson has had a new spark in his career in recent years with the Five Night’s At Freddy’s franchise giving him two starring roles, but also starring in The Beekeeper alongside Jason Statham, and in the HBO comedy series I Love LA from creator Rachel Sennott.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) as he is forced to fight in his own Hunger Games, years before Katniss and Peeta fight in theirs. The film features a large returning cast of characters, all with younger actors.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, Jennifer Lawrence, and Josh Hutcherson. The film is due out in theatres in November, 2026.
