What Is Saturday Night About?

Saturday Night is a film starring many young generational talents with a cast consisting of Gabriel LaBelle, Cooper Hoffman, Rachel Sennott, Dylan O’Brien, Finn Wolfhard, Ella Hunt, Kaia Gerber, Nicholas Braun, and more. It was tentatively titled SNL 75 before the title was changed to the current one, Saturday Night, on July 30.

The film revolves around producer Lorne Michaels, (played by Gabriel LaBelle) and a ferocious trope of young comedians and writers who prepare for the very first broadcast of Saturday Night Live on October 11th, 1975 as they prepare to step into a revolutionary spotlight that will change history and turn them to stars.

The film has been described to be in the vein of movies such as Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) with the plot of the film occurring very quickly and being full of chaos, hopefully translating into a fun ride! It also stars Gabriel LaBelle who made his breakout in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans and Cooper Hoffman, who starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza and is the son of the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman. Additionally, the film also has two very big talents which are Willem Dafoe and J.K. Simmons, who are both known for having outstanding acting performances in their careers.

How Long Is Saturday Night?

Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night will have a runtime of 1 hour and 49 minutes and it will be premiering in Toronto International Film Festival / TIFF on September 10th. Additionally, the film will most likely be R-rated due to excessive drug use and coarse language. You can watch the trailer for the film below:

It’s very obvious that even though the film may seem to be chaotic, it will hopefully still be able to give audiences a fun time in theaters. Making a film about the most frenzied hour and a half, right before Saturday Night Live conquered television sounds like a way to get audiences in theaters because perfectly, the film releases on the same day Saturday Night Live will have its 50th anniversary.

Saturday Night is directed by Jason Reitman and stars Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels, Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, and more.
