Henry Danger: The Movie sees the titular character Henry Hart (Jace Norman) stand out on his own as a hero in the fictional city of Dystopia alongside his partner Jasper Dunlop (Sean Ryan Fox). When he encounters the energetic Missy Martin, he’s forced to step back into his role as Captain Man’s (Cooper Barnes) sidekick, Kid Danger. Read the official synopsis below:

After meeting Kid Danger superfan Missy Martin and being pulled into a portal that opens alternate realities, Henry and his inexperienced new sidekick must find their way back to Dystopia or be trapped forever.

When I initially saw commercials for Henry Danger: The Movie, I was put off by it. While I’m always open to franchises trying something new, Henry Danger in a potentially serious tone just felt wrong to me, losing the charm that the original series had. Fortunately, that serious tone was restricted to the opening of the film, and the Henry Danger I knew came back into the fold.

Speaking of the opening, I was surprised by how cinematic it felt from the way it was filmed. There’s no easy way to say this, but it genuinely felt inspired by the Marvel films we’ve grown accustomed to. The film keeps that momentum all the way, especially in its final moments. I even found the special effects to be of higher quality than the TV shows.

After the initial episodes of Danger Force, I stopped watching the series, meaning I was going into this film a bit blind. Fortunately, the opening also provides a recap of everything that happened to Henry Hart, and it honestly made me want to catch up on everything because I was in awe hearing about all the events that occurred.

Henry Danger is yet another franchise to fall into the trend of using the multiverse. However, I was impressed with how it was utilized. While it is briefly used for a cameo, the film then uses the multiverse as a tool to solve the major conflict of the film, which revolves around the now fragile friendship between Henry and Jasper.

Despite my initial fears of how this film might have changed a beloved character, I’m left impressed and relieved as it feels like a good continuation of the franchise. There’s lots of fun to have with this movie and with The Thundermans receiving a sequel series, I remain optimistic that there’s a future for this franchise as well.
