‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina’ Ending Explained

With the release of the latest film in the John Wick franchise, From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina, we finally have another tease at how the universe will continue.

It’s been eight years since Len Wiseman’s From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina was first announced and now that it is finally here, we can dive into the ending of the film, trying to get an idea of where the franchise may take us next whilst we wait for the next John Wick spin-off, Donnie Yen’s Caine directorial (presumably titled From The World Of John Wick: Caine).

This article will contain spoilers for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.

From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina follows Eve Maccaro (Ana de Armas) as the Ruska Roma trains her and later sets out for revenge against the men who killed her father, led by the villainous Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne). Her path intertwines with many John Wick characters that we’ve previously seen, including the likes of The New York Continental’s Winston (Ian McShane), his receptionist Charon (Lance Reddick), The Director (Angelica Huston), and the Babayaga himself (Keanu Reeves).

What Happens At The End of ‘From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina’?

The main mission of the film saw Eve set out on a revenge mission to kill members of a mysterious cult, including its leader, The Chancellor, which takes her across the globe in an effort to get justice for her parents’ deaths. Succeeding in her mission, with help and advice from Keanu Reeves’ John Wick, she returns back to New York to watch her ex-Ruska Roma friend Lena, who is performing Swan Lake.

Off screen, someone places a contract on Eve, leading people, including herself, to receive phone notifications for a bounty on her head from someone in the criminal underbelly of the universe. This mirrors the excommunicado placed on John Wick at the end of John Wick Chapter 2 after he violates the rules of The Continental Hotel. Whilst Eve did not violate any rules during her stay at The Continental, she did violate a pact between the cult in the film and the Ruska Roma.

Who Placed The Bounty On Eve In Ballerina?

There are a few options for who may have placed a bounty on her head, with the first and most obvious choice being Angelica Huston’s The Director. In the film, Huston orders Eve to not go after the cult but Eve quickly ignores and does so anyway, leading The Director to send John Wick to kill her in the village of Holstad. Wick finds a way around his order, eventually helping Macarro, but the Director and Eve still have bad blood.

The second possibility as to who may have placed the bounty are the remaining members of the cult itself. With the Chancellor (heavily implied to have the last name Pine) dead, Eve is warned that the other cult members will come after her, so this may be cause for the contract.

The third option is that Eve did accidentally break a rule in The Continental Prague during her firefight with the cult alongside Norman Reedus’ Daniel Pine, leading to her actually being excommunicado in the same way John Wick was.
