First ‘Madden’ Teaser Shows Christian Bale Hyping Up Nicolas Cage In David O. Russell Film
The first Madden teaser has been released showcasing looks at Nicolas Cage, Christian Bale, and John Mulaney.
It’s been four years since the release of David O. Russell’s last film, Amsterdam, which was met with poor critical reception, despite its A-list cast. Now, the director is back for a biopic about the life of John Madden, starring Nicolas Cage in the titular role and Christian Bale as Al Davis.
Prime Video dropped the teaser for the film Christmas Day, showing confidence in the film that is set to release in eleven months. You can watch the first teaser for Madden below.
Madden tells the story of John Madden, the football coach and sports commentator, showcasing his life story includng the development of the Madden NFL video game franchise. The logline for the film describes it as “Inspired by a true story, MADDEN follows the football legend from Super Bowl glory with the Raiders to revolutionizing the game with Madden NFL.”
The film stars a pair of legendary actors, Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale as John Madden and Al Davis (the owner of the Raiders) respectively. The teaser sees Davis say “There’s only one John Madden, they didn’t make another one,” showing just how much of a powerhouse the film plans to portray Madden as.
The film also stars John Mulaney as Electronic Arts (EA) founder Trip Hawkins, who is being fourth billed, likely meaning that the film will focus pretty heavily on the gaming aspect of John Madden’s career.

Madden is directed by David O. Russell and stars Nicolas Cage, Christian Bale, Kathryn Hahn, John Mulaney, Sienna Miller, and Shane Gillis. The film is set to arrive on Prime Video this Thanksgiving, with no theatrical release announced.
