‘Evil Dead Wrath’ Begins Production Later This Month In Auckland

Following the breakout success of Evil Dead Rise back in 2023, pre-production is underway on the second follow-up to that film, Evil Dead Wrath.

'Evil Dead Wrath' Begins Production Later This Month In Auckland

First announced in April of 2024, nearly a year following the release of Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise, Evil Dead Wrath is set to be written and directed by Francis Galluppi and is deep in post-production, with the cast of the film being rounded out late last month. On January 21st, 2026, it was revealed that Charlotte Hope, Jessica McNamee, Zach Gilford, Josh Helman, Ella Newton, Ella Oliphant, and Elizabeth Cullen had joined the cast of the film, leading many to theorise about the production start date. Now, a new report stemming from a production slate listing for the Screen Guild of New Zealand lists Evil Dead Wrath as a film that will begin production not only later this month (February 2026), but also in the city of Auckland, New Zealand.

Other projects in the Sam Raimi masterminded franchise that shot in New Zealand include Evil Dead (the 2013 reboot by Fede Álvarez), TV’s Ash vs Evil Dead for Starz, Evil Dead Rise, and the upcoming Evil Dead Burn (from Sébastien Vaniček).

The synopsis for Evil Dead Wrath has not been revealed yet but suffice to say it won’t continue on the story of Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams, who is the starring actor of the franchise, having appeared in all five films (in some capacity). The original Evil Dead trilogy told the story of a group of people who go on a holiday in a decrepit cabin and find an ancient book (The Necronomicon) and soon unleash a force of evil unheard of. The films mixed camp and horror, but the franchise has since evolved more into horror with elements of campiness.

Evil Dead Wrath is written by Francis Gallupi and is set to be his directorial follow-up to 2023’s The Last Stop in Yuma County. The film stars Charlotte Hope, Jessica McNamee, Zach Gilford, Josh Helman, Ella Newton, Ella Oliphant, and Elizabeth Cullen. The film is aiming for a 2027 release date.
