‘Dog Man’ Digital Release Date Revealed

Dog Man, which was released in cinemas on January 31st, surprised a lot of people by growing a devout following online, especially on X, which saw a committed community constantly tweeting about and promoting the film on behalf of Universal Studios. 

Luckily, the film faced little to no competition at the box office, only having to fight with the last few screenings of Moana 2 and Oscar re-showings of The Wild Robot. This led to the movie receiving a box office total of around $70 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Whilst this may seem impressive, it’s unclear whether this led to an actual profit for the studio, considering the budget was reportedly somewhere around $40 million, though The Hollywood Reporter states that the movie earned back its budget within its first weekend, excluding marketing, which must mean they made even a few million back from this. 

After only 2 weeks in cinemas, the confirmed digital release date for Dog Man is February 18th. It will be available to buy/rent at the usual PVOD digital stores and at Peacock at a later date.

The movie, based on Dav Pilkey’s graphic novel, follows the crime-fighting duo Officer Knight and Greg the Dog. When the defusing of a bomb goes wrong, Officer Knight’s head and Greg’s body are damaged, putting them in the hospital. Two surgeons save them by stitching Greg’s head onto Officer Knight’s body – leading to the creation of the titular hero. As time passes, this crime-fighting hero gains popularity through his countless arrests of Petey, an orange cat who constantly threatens Dog Man’s hometown of Ohkay City and cements himself as his nemesis.

Dog Man is directed by Peter Hastings, who also stars as the titular Dog Man. The cast also includes Pete Davidson, Lil Rey Howery, Ricky Gervais, Isla Fisher, Lucas Hopkins Caldero, and more.
