Yet another movie is in the works at DC Studios, this time an animated movie, Dynamic Duo, featuring the two Robins Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.
In an exclusive by Anthony D’Alessandro of Deadline, it has been revealed that DC Studios’ is developing yet another film, this time an animated movie titled Dynamic Duo. The film is being lauded as the first collaboration between DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation.
What will set this film apart from other animated features in the genre, is its unique method of animation, a style of puppetry called “Momo animation”. The company that is animating this project, Swaybox Studios, mixes CG animation with elements of practical stop-motion and real time performances. The New Orleans-based studio is helmed by married Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson, with Mintz set to direct and Andersson to produce alongside DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The film is also set to be produced by 6th & Idaho’s Matt Reeves, who has previously worked on Batman properties such as The Batman, Batman: Caped Crusader, The Penguin and the upcoming The Batman Part II film. While this isn’t connected to Reeves’ 2022 originating universe, the film is set to follow the two Robins Dick Grayson (who later becomes Nightwing) and Jason Todd (who later becomes Red Hood).
Reeves commented on the film saying: “I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream.”
The film is set to be written by Matthew Aldrich, who is best known for writing the animated film Coco, as well as additional screenplay material for 2022’s Lightyear.
Studio co-head James Gunn also commented on the film below, confirming the films status with a greenlight for production.
DC Studios is being masterminded by James Gunn and Peter Safran and is currently actively producing Superman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Lanterns, Peacemaker Season 2, Creature Commandos, and Dynamic Duo.
