‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Part 2 Review: The New Diamond of the Seasons
The final part of Bridgerton season four is out and may be the greatest outing from the show.
“…you have taken possession of me, shot me back to life…” This line is from the expertly written profession of love in the first episode of part 2. Quite possibly the greatest speech written for the show. Starting off the later half of the season with an absolute bang. This highlight was only the beginning of what turned into the greatest collection of episodes Bridgerton has ever brought forth. These episodes focus on the continued love story between Benedict Bridgerton and a maid named Sophie, as they try to navigate a way to be together. Societal standards and family expectations lend to the difficulty of the relationship. Is it strong enough to withstand these obstacles? Read our full review for Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2 below.
The one thing Bridgerton has always lacked was consistency. This season, they seem to have been able to rectify those issues. The show has always had a special place in my heart, because of how well they manage to pull off the central romance. Yet, the seasons always fall short due to the side plots either not being interesting enough or not being given enough room to breathe. They have struck the perfect balance between the love story between Sophie and Benedict, the mothers blooming romance, Francesca’s problems, the Queen’s resentment to change, and so much more. There was a synergy that actually gave me chills. Never has a season of Bridgerton had such an effect on me. Making me excited for the future of the show and hungry for more.

We now have the closing chapter of the tale of Sophie and Benedict, and I have to say I am completely satisfied with their ending. During the entire season I was on the edge of my seat wondering how they were going to pull this together. Unlike other seasons, there are actual stakes here. Sophie is an illegitimate maid with people waiting to take her down, marrying Benedict would be so scandalous his family would have to ostracize him and the relationship could negatively affect the family for years to come. It goes deeper than just misunderstandings like past seasons. Though their ending felt a little rushed, it came together in a satisfying, surprising way. It is all brought together excellently by the continued chemistry between Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha. Thompson was more just serviceable to me in the first half of the season, but in this new batch of episodes he really became a stand out. Both made a perfect couple, that kept me continually guessing, excited, and blushing.
The most surprising performance of the season was Hannah Dodd’s Francesca. She really proved herself as a powerhouse that can gracefully weave the complex emotions her character was struck with this season. During episode six, there is the heartbreaking loss of her husband John, played by Victor Alli. Dodd was truly extraordinary, not merely pulling off the necessary screaming and crying, but playing the quiet heartbreak in such an earnest manner. I had always liked Francesca and in turn Hannah Dodd’s portrayal of her, but this level of performance was unexpected and had me holding back many tears.

After ruminating on the past seasons and now season four for the past few days, I can say full heartedly that this is the greatest season of Bridgerton to date. Every aspect of the show was firing on all cylinders. From the expertly intertwined storylines to the picture perfect leads to the surprising commanding supporting performances, everything came together perfectly. The only complaint that I have is that I wanted more. More time with Sophie and Benedict after the resolution, more time with Francesca, and more time to set up what is coming next. Unlike last season, I have no clue which sibling will helm the next season. All I know is that I can not wait, because Bridgerton has found its footing again after the low that was season three. I enthusiastically implore you to check out the forth, and greatest season of this show.
Bridgerton Season 4 Part two stars Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha, Ruth Gemmell, Claudia Jessie, Hannah Dodd, Nicola Coughlan, Adjoa Andoh, Daniel Francis, Florence Hunt, and Golda Rosheuvel. Part 2 was released on Netflix on February 26.
