‘Black Phone 2’ Ending Explained: The Grabber’s Fate Explained
Black Phone 2 is out now in theaters, here is the ending for the movie explained.
Scott Derrickson is back with his second feature of the year, Black Phone 2, a follow-up to his critically acclaimed film that debuted back in 2021. Due to the success of that first film, it was only natural for a sequel to be greenlit and developed. Here is the ending for Black Phone 2 explained.
Based on the short story by Joe Hill, Black Phone 2 sees siblings Finney (Mason Thames) and Gwen Blake (Madeleine McGraw) travel to Camp Alpine Lake to solve the source of Gwen’s mysterious prophetic dreams, leading them to come face to face with a foe of their past, The Grabber (Ethan Hawke).
What Happens At The End Of ‘Black Phone 2’?

As the inhabitants of Camp Alpine Lake search for the remaining two missing children beneath the lake’s ice, darkness falls, and out of exhaustion, Gwen falls asleep in the carriage. As she falls asleep, she enters the dream world (portrayed as if shot on a film tape) which activates the ghost of Ethan Hawke’s Wild Bill, aka The Grabber.
The Grabber, now with the ability to ice skate, tries to kill Gwen’s dream self but she dives into the water, leaving the Grabber to go after two of the other characters in the film, the officer workers. Soon, he tries to force the barrels containing the boys back into the lake (given the restlessness of the boys’ souls causes his power) and tries to kill Finney. Dream Gwen brings the barrels back to the surface, and Finney breaks free, leading Gwen and the ghostly trio of boys to attack The Grabber. Finney deals the final blows by slamming his head into the ice.
Gwen and Finney leave with their father and Ernesto, but not before Gwen receives a phone call from her ghostly mother, Hope (Anna Lore).
