Beau DeMayo Tells Different Stories On His ‘X-Men ’97’ Firing

Beau DeMayo Tells Different Stories On His 'X-Men '97' Firing

Beau DeMayo hopped on Twitter to accuse Marvel of stripping him of credit for his work on X-Men ’97 Season 2 for a Pride-related post he made back in June.

This comes after the writer was fired back in March, just weeks before X-Men ’97 premiered. It’s been unclear why exactly he was fired, but the situation is finally coming to light.

Beau claims that he was stripped of credit for posting fan art of himself as Cyclops. He claims the letter he was sent by Marvel insinuates or says it was due to the post. He also continues to claim that this is just the tip of the iceberg, and has dealt with other stuff like this with Marvel.

Who Is Beau DeMayo?

Beau DeMayo is the creator and was the head writer for X-Men ’97 prior to getting fired from the company. His prior credits include The Originals, The Witcher, Moon Knight, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and some other minor stuff.

He also worked on Blade, as he mentions in his tweet, it’s unclear if he will get credit on the film as his work on that script was prior to a lot of plot elements moving around.

Marvel’s Swift Response

Marvel responded nearly as quickly as Kendrick Lamar responded to Drake in their beef. They put out a statement via The Hollywood Reporter less than 2 hours after the tweets went up. Here was their statement:

Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel

While Marvel didn’t say what they found in the investigation, THR added that their sources claimed it “involved sexual misconduct.”.

It sounds like Marvel responded very quickly because they had enough proof behind the firing.

Beau’s Response Back

Beau responded to these new allegations on Twitter with two more tweets on the situation.

He claims that Marvel is trying to hide the real reasons behind their accusations against him. He asks for his Twitter followers to stay tuned presumably to drop more information of sorts in support his claims against Marvel.

Beau DeMayo’s Tricky Past

Believe it or not, this is not the first time Beau has been accused of some level of misconduct. A The Witcher writer accused him of some gross things, to say the least.

Beau DeMayo Tells Different Stories On His 'X-Men '97' Firing

Matthew D’Ambrosio, fellow The Witcher writer tweeted this about Beau DeMayo in 2022 regarding some comments Beau made about the show and its writing. It sounds like there was some history for the writer on the job as this seems to be the second time he’s been accused of being fired for abuse or misconduct.

What Did Beau DeMayo Do?

While it’s unclear what Beau actually did, it sounds like some with information have come forward to reveal that sexual misconduct may or may not be a generous term for what he did.

Here the writer is being accused, by a secondhand account, of acting inappropriately around a colleague of this Twitter user.

Big Screen Leaks, a popular Marvel leaker claims that the details would potentially make Beau look even worse, and the term misconduct may be generous in terms of what he actually did.

The co-founder of The Direct, Jack McBryan, makes a very valid point that nobody has come out to defend DeMayo at all. Nobody other than DeMayo himself has really spoken on the situation until now.

What Next?

It sounds like a lot is going to be revealed in the coming days as insider Jeff Sneider claims to have info and is looking into both sides including asking DeMayo for a comment for his article.

It also seems like the band-aid is off for both sides so it is looking like the situation will start to get explosive from all angles. Stay tuned to Feature First when more info on this drops!
