Never bet against James Cameron, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the box office. Read our Avatar: Fire and Ash second weekend drop article.
Never bet against James Cameron is a phrase that has been proven true for over 40 years now. It seems like it remains true as Avatar: Fire and Ash is retaining amazing legs following the holiday period, with some jaw dropping projections heading into it’s second weekend.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to drop as low as 15% this weekend at the domestic box office, an insanely low figure for a blockbuster, signifying strong audience reception. That is a $90M four-day weekend. For context, the film’s opening four day weekend did $102.2M, or $89.2M for the 3-day.

With these legs, $2B+ worldwide gross could be back on the table, with the film previously predicted to cap at $1.8B if it matched Avatar: The Way of Water‘s legs, but it is now surpassing them. Surprisingly, Avatar: The Way of Water had the smallest legs of any James Cameron movie domestically, which just speaks to the staying power of the director.
The Avatar franchise follows a soldier who abandons his squadron of space-colonizers to live amongst the people of the moon Pandora, the Na’vi. There he falls in love and starts a family with with Neytiri (Zoe SaldaƱa) as he is hunted by his former Colonel, Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). Fire and Ash sees Quaritch team up with the villainous Ash clan, led by Varang (Oona Chaplin).

Avatar: Fire and Ash features an ensemble cast consisting of Sam Worthington, Zoe SaldaƱa, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, Sigourney Weaver, Bailey Bass, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Trinity Bliss, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, Jamie Flatters, and David Thewlis.
