Austin Butler Set To Star In ‘American Psycho’ Remake
Austin Butler has officially been cast as Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of American Psycho.
Just under two months ago, it was revealed that Challengers director Luca Guadagnino would be tackling a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, American Psycho; Today, Variety is reporting that Austin Butler has landed the lead role of Patrick Bateman in the film.
American Psycho was originally adapted in 2000 with Christian Bale in the now iconic role. The film follows Patrick Bateman, a New York City investor who gives into his violent tendencies and murders multiple people in the process.
Austin Butler is coming hot off of the set of Darren Aronofsky’s next film, Caught Stealing, which wrapped up production last week. The actor is no stranger to playing psychopaths, having recently portrayed the devilish Feyd Rautha earlier this year in Dune: Part Two.
This year Luca Guadagnino has directed two highly acclaimed films, Queer starring Daniel Craig, and Challengers starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist.
It is currently unknown when this American Psycho project is set to film as director Luca Guadagnino has many projects in the pipeline.
Most recently he wrapped filming on After The Hunt which stars Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts, and Ayo Edebiri. Guadagnino is also set to direct Seperate Rooms starring Josh O’Connor and Léa Seydoux and the recently confirmed Sgt. Rock film starring Daniel Craig for DC Studios.
This new version of the film has been described by Lionsgate executive Adam Fogelson as a “whole new interpretation” of the story, meaning it won’t be a 1:1 remake of the classic film. Scott Z. Burns has written the script for the film.
American Psycho is set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino with Austin Butler as Patrick Bateman.
