Skydance Pauses Development On Stephen Colbert’s ‘Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past’
David Ellison is making big moves in his first week as CEO of Skydance, the result of the WB-Paramount merger.
In yet another bombshell following the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, David Ellison’s Skydance has paused development on the next Lord of the Rings film following Andy Serkis’s The Hunt for Gollum.
In an exclusive report from Knight Edge Media, Skydance has allegedly paused development on Stephen Colbert’s Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past. It’s Ellison’s second attack on Colbert’s career after Colbert was removed from CBS’s programming when his late show was cancelled.
Shadow of the Past was first announced back in March on the 25th, which is the celebration of Tolkien Reading Day, where Peter Jackson and Stephen Colbert revealed the film.
KEM reports that the film was expected to begin production in New Zealand following The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is currently shooting on location with Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, Jamie Dornan, Anya Taylor-Joy, Lee Pace, Leo Woodall, and Kate Winslet.
The film is yet to be fully cancelled, with Colbert permitted to work on further drafts, though any and all production is on hold until the megacorp sees how profitable The Hunt for Gollum is before greenlighting more projects.
Lord of the Rings will next be seen on the small screen with Prime Video’s The Rings of Power hitting the streaming service with its third season in November.
