Wagner Moura Eyed To Play The Villain in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel Film

With production set to begin later this year for the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, starring Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie, as Danny Ocean’s parents, it’s no surprise that we’re going to be reading about casting announcements very soon.

The film which Cooper is also attached to direct, has been in development since 2022 and has had previous directors and stars attached to it at various points. It had first begun with Jay Roach set to direct and Ryan Gosling to star alongside Robbie. As time had passed, Gosling dropped out and so did Roach, Twisters director, Lee Isaac Chung, was set to direct the film instead afterwards, with Bradley Cooper attached to star instead of Gosling. But with Lee Isaac Chung also dropping out, that was when it was decided that Cooper would not only direct the film, but also serve as a co-writer.

Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, will be producing this film. Some of LuckyChap’s productions include Wuthering Heights, Barbie and My Old Ass.

Having starred in two highly in acclaimed films in the last two years (Civil War & The Secret Agent) and having secured a nomination for the Best Actor Academy Award, there was no doubt that Wagner Moura was going to looked into for not only more projects, but also ones from big studios and or critically-acclaimed directors.

According to insider, Daniel Richtman, Wagner Moura is being eyed to play the villain in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel, which could make up to some interesting dynamics especially when he’ll be paired with the likes of Cooper and Robbie. While this may seem unrelated, fans online have also been advocating for Moura to play the antagonist in the upcoming James Bond film directed by Denis Villeneuve and he’s also set to star in the upcoming Panos Cosmatos horror film, titled Flesh of the Gods alongside Kristen Stewart.

Despite the fact that there’s no specific date of when filming is supposed to start later this year, we do have a plot synopsis for the film which hits theaters on June 25th, 2027.

Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents. And in 1962, they pull off an epic heist during the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix.

It’s difficult to tell if the film will keep its current release date or not despite filming having not started yet, we could see it being delayed to Fall 2027 and make a Venice premiere.
