‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Blazes Past One Billion Dollars At Worldwide Box Office

Never doubt James Cameron or, at this point, Avatar. Read about Avatar: Fire and Ash grossing one billion dollars worldwide inside.

'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Blazes Past One Billion Dollars At Worldwide Box Office

After two very good weeks at the worldwide box office, Avatar: Fire and Ash has officially passed one billion dollars at the worldwide box office and only in its third week making it the second fastest Avatar film to reach the milestone, coming in at 18 days, surpassing the first film, Avatar, which grossed the number in 19 days. The only film that beats it is 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, which grossed one billion dollars in 14 days.

Avatar is, of course, the brain child of visionary director James Cameron, who dreamed of the idea in the late 70s as a young man but was limited by the effects and technology at the time to make the film, leading him to wait until the early 2000s, where he has been working on the franchise ever since. In that time, actors such as Sam Worthington, Zoe SaldaƱa, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, David Thewlis and many more have joined the multi-billion dollar sci-fi franchise.

This is the fourth consecutive James Cameron film to reach the one billion dollar milestone, joining 1997’s Titanic, 2009’s Avatar, and 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water. Coincidentally, it also marks the fourth 2025 release to gross over one billion dollars at the worldwide box office. The first is Ne Zha II, which sits at a comfortable $2.24B grossed largely from its China release. The second to hit this mark was Lilo & Stitch, which sits just over the billion-dollar mark, which means Avatar: Fire and Ash will soon surpass it to come third in the coming days. The third is the recent Zootopia 2, a sequel to the 2016 film, and is sitting at $1.48B.

Avatar: Fire and Ash didn’t hit $1B as fast as Zootopia 2 did, but it’s very likely the threequel will surpass that film sooner rather than later. In fact, Avatar: Fire and Ash becomes the tenth fastest film to hit the $1B dollar mark, tying with F8: The Fate of the Furious, which released back in 2017.

The film remains on track to be a box office success. Despite its monumental gross, the film was speculated to have a break-even point of $1B.
