The first series followed cannibal serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the second followed the murderous (?) Mendenez brothers, and this third one is about legendary serial killer Ed Gein.
Ed Gein briefly appeared in Dahmer—the first season of the show. He was portrayed by Shane Kerwin but has been recast for this new series. Charlie Hunnam will be portraying Ed Gein instead.

The shocking true-life tale of Ed Gein, the infamous murderer and grave robber who inspired many of Hollywood’s most iconic on-screen killers.
As the logline suggests, Ed Gein is the inspiration behind Norman Bates (Psycho), Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Buffalo Bill (The Silence of the Lambs). Alfred Hitchcock, director of Psycho is depicted on screen in Monster: The Ed Gein Story by Tom Hollander.
